ARLINGTON, Texas — The Texas Rangers made a significant move to strengthen their pitching staff, acquiring left-hander MacKenzie Gore from the Washington Nationals as part of a six-player trade announced Friday.
Gore, one of the Nationals’ top arms, gives the Rangers an immediate boost to their rotation with his power fastball and swing-and-miss stuff. The 25-year-old has continued to trend upward, showing the durability and upside Texas has been seeking as it looks to stay competitive in the American League.
To land Gore, the Rangers sent a package of young talent to Washington, including shortstop Gavin Fien, infielder Devin Fitz-Gerald, right-handed pitcher Alejandro Rosario, first baseman/outfielder Abimelec Ortiz, and outfielder Yeremy Cabrera. The deal reflects Texas’ willingness to part with depth from its farm system to acquire a controllable, big-league-ready starter.
For Texas, the move signals urgency and intent. Gore is expected to slide into a prominent role on the staff, adding a left-handed presence capable of matching up against the league’s toughest lineups. For Washington, the return brings a mix of positional versatility and pitching upside as the Nationals continue to build toward the future.
The Rangers believe Gore’s best baseball is still ahead of him — and they’re betting he can make an immediate impact in Arlington.
