Stars Fall To Blackhawks In shootout

DALLAS — The Dallas Stars matched a franchise milestone Friday night — but couldn’t grab the second point.

Dallas dropped a shootout decision to Chicago after a 3–3 finish through overtime, earning its 118th point of the 2025 calendar year. That total ties the Stars’ most in a calendar year since relocating to Dallas, matching 2022.

Mikko Rantanen was the engine, recording a goal and two assists and extending both his point and assist streaks to six games. It was his seventh three-point outing of the season. Wyatt Johnston also had three assists, tying his single-game career high.

Rookie Justin Hryckowian scored his sixth goal of the season and pushed his career-long point streak to five games — the longest by a Stars rookie since last February. Sam Steel recorded his 100th career assist, and Roope Hintz went 9-for-11 on faceoffs.

Head coach Glen Gulutzan said Chicago “was better than us for the first two periods,” while a strong Blackhawks penalty kill stalled Dallas’ power play. The Stars pushed in the third but couldn’t finish before losing the skills competition.

They get another shot at Chicago soon — and a chance to turn milestones into two points.
