DENTON, Texas — North Texas closed out its home slate with another offensive showcase, rolling past Temple 52–25 on Saturday and sweeping the all-time series 3–0.
The Mean Green (6–1 at home this year) drew 24,480 fans, pushing their season home average to a program-record 24,492. They controlled the game from the opening whistle, improving to 19–0 under head coach Eric Morris when leading after three quarters.
Freshman quarterback Drew Mestemaker delivered one of his sharpest outings, going 20-of-24 for 366 yards and three touchdowns while breaking the American Conference freshman passing record with 3,835 yards. His early 77-yard strike to Cameron Dorner highlighted a passing attack that featured two 100-yard receivers, as Dorner (125) and Wyatt Young (127) both cleared triple digits. Young’s 1,203 yards now rank second in UNT single-season history.
Freshman running back Caleb Hawkins continued his historic season with 186 yards and four touchdowns, breaking the school’s single-season rushing TD record and becoming the only FBS player since 1995 with four games of four rushing scores. He now has 26 total touchdowns, second-most in conference history.
UNT’s offense piled up 605 yards, topping 50 points for the seventh time this season — a first in program history — and producing two 99-yard touchdown drives in the first half. The Mean Green have now scored at least 30 points in all 12 games.
The defense added an interception from Da’Veawn Armstead and a team-high 12 tackles from Trey Fields, helping UNT reach 25 takeaways this season. Kicker Kali Nguma remained perfect on PATs (7-for-7), extending his career streak to 124.
North Texas’ seven touchdowns pushed its season total to a school-record 75 as the Mean Green continued one of the most prolific offensive seasons in program history.
