ARLINGTON, Texas — Jacob deGrom’s long-awaited return paid off in a big way. The Rangers right-hander was named the 2025 AL Comeback Player of the Year after re-emerging as Texas’ ace following two injury-riddled seasons.
The 37-year-old delivered a 12–8 record, a 2.97 ERA, and 185 strikeouts over 30 starts, breaking Nolan Ryan’s franchise WHIP record with a 0.92 mark. He also became just the eighth pitcher in Rangers/Senators history to post 30 starts with an ERA under 3.00.
It was his first full workload since 2019, reinforcing a résumé that now includes Rookie of the Year, two Cy Young Awards, and now a Comeback trophy — making him just the second pitcher ever, alongside Justin Verlander, to earn all three.
Players backed the vote as well, with the MLBPA naming him their AL Comeback winner to complete the sweep.
