Rangers Add Two from A’s, Trim Roster Ahead of Offseason

ARLINGTON, Texas — The Texas Rangers have claimed catcher Willie MacIver and right-handed pitcher Michel Otañez off waivers from the Oakland Athletics, while outfielders Dustin Harris and Billy McKinney have been released after clearing waivers.

MacIver, 29, debuted with Oakland this season, hitting .186 over 32 games but excelled at Triple-A Las Vegas, where he led the Pacific Coast League with a .362 average.

Otañez, 28, appeared in six games for the A’s in 2025 and owns a 4.81 career ERA across 42 big-league outings. He led the American League in strikeouts per nine innings (14.59) during his rookie year in 2024.

Following the moves, Texas’ 40-man roster now stands at 35 players.
