DALLAS, TEXAS — The Dallas Stars extended their point streak to seven games Wednesday night, rallying from two goals down to beat the Edmonton Oilers 4–3 in a shootout — their longest run since last season’s 10-game stretch.
Mikko Rantanen led the comeback with two goals and an assist, including his 300th career NHL goal. He’s just the fourth Finnish player to hit that milestone and the third-fastest to do so in 665 games. “It felt good,” Rantanen said. “Playing with Robo [Robertson] and Johnny [Johnston], they make it easy. We battled hard even when we were down.”
Wyatt Johnston also had three assists and scored the shootout winner, his first career deciding goal. “Not how we scripted it, but you’ve got to find ways to win,” he said. Head coach Glen Gulutzan praised him: “Seeing a young player perform against top talent like that is a great sign.”
Jason Robertson added the other shootout goal, improving to 19-for-33 in his career (57.6%), the fourth-best success rate in NHL history among players with at least 20 attempts.
On defense, Miro Heiskanen helped contain Connor McDavid. “You just try to keep a good gap and not let him get full speed,” Heiskanen said.
For the Oilers, it was another missed opportunity. “We lost focus,” said head coach Kris Knoblauch. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins added, “We were in a good spot, but our decisions cost us.”
Rantanen summed up the Stars’ mindset best: “Even when we’re down, we know we can come back. That’s the kind of team we want to be.”
