FRISCO, TEXAS — The Dallas Cowboys (3-3-1) travel to Denver this weekend seeking to end one of the franchise’s longest active droughts. The Broncos (5-2) have dominated the series, winning seven straight — including a 30-16 victory in Dallas in 2021. The Cowboys’ last win over Denver came nearly 30 years ago, in 1995.
This trip, however, carries a little extra meaning. Running back Javonte Williams returns to Denver — but this time wearing the star on his helmet. Williams has been a force in his first season with the Cowboys, tallying a team-high seven scrimmage touchdowns (six rushing, one receiving). His seven total scores tie Herschel Walker and Bob Hayes for the most touchdowns by a Cowboy in their first seven games with the team.
Williams has also been one of the league’s most efficient backs, ranking third in the NFL with 5.33 yards per carry. The last Cowboy to average over 5.3 yards through seven games was Marion Barber in 2007 (5.70).
Meanwhile, Dak Prescott continues his scorching form, joining NFL greats like Tom Brady and Peyton Manning as just the sixth quarterback ever to throw at least three touchdowns with no interceptions in four straight games. Dallas has also forced at least one turnover without giving the ball away in four consecutive contests — the longest streak in team history.
Tight end Jake Ferguson remains a difference-maker, becoming the only tight end in NFL history with at least 50 catches and six receiving touchdowns through seven games.
With Prescott in rhythm, Williams thriving in his Denver homecoming, and the defense forcing timely takeaways, the Cowboys head into Mile High with a chance to rewrite a frustrating chapter in franchise history.
