DENTON, Texas — North Texas delivered a statement win Saturday, crushing UTSA 55-17 to snap a four-game skid in the rivalry and improve to 9–5 all-time against the Roadrunners. The 38-point rout was UNT’s largest over a conference foe since 2022.
Freshman quarterback Drew Mestemaker shined with 277 passing yards, five total touchdowns, and a career night through the air. Wyatt Young hauled in six catches for 102 yards and three scores, while Caleb Hawkins racked up 133 rushing yards and 90 receiving — his second 100/50 game this season.
UNT’s offense piled up more than 500 yards for the 14th time under Eric Morris and has now scored 30+ points in seven straight games for the first time in program history.
Defensively, Skyler Cassity’s group forced three fumbles and turned them into 10 points. Will Jones II led the team with six tackles, while Briceon Hayes added a sack and forced fumble. Kicker Kali Nguma stayed perfect, hitting all seven PATs and two field goals.
With the victory, UNT (6–1) became bowl-eligible earlier than any season since 2018.
