Stars Outlast Avalanche in Shootout Thriller

DENVER, COLORADO — The Dallas Stars pulled off a gritty 5-4 shootout win over the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday night, with Jason Robertson and Mikko Rantanen delivering in the clutch and Jake Oettinger standing tall when it mattered most.

Oettinger stopped 35 shots and turned away Nathan MacKinnon on the final attempt to seal the victory, spoiling Brent Burns’ 1,500th NHL game. Thomas Harley notched a goal and an assist, while Nathan Bastian and Robertson scored minutes apart in the second to spark Dallas.

Wyatt Johnston buried a breakaway in the third, and after a tense back-and-forth finish, Rantanen capped it off in the shootout to give the Stars a hard-earned win that had all the energy of a playoff night in October.
