ARLINGTON — The Rangers’ September skid hit five games after a 6-4 extra-inning loss to the Miami Marlins on Wednesday night at Globe Life Field.
Now 79-75, Texas must finish at least 3-5 in its final eight games to notch back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 2016-17. But the offense continues to slump — the Rangers managed just four hits, their MLB-leading 28th game this season with four or fewer.
Tyler Mahle made his return from the IL, tossing 4.2 scoreless innings and extending his homerless streak at Globe Life Field to 48.2 innings — the longest such streak in the league. Texas used nine pitchers in the game, matching a franchise high.
Rowdy Tellez delivered late drama with a game-tying, pinch-hit homer in the 10th, but the bullpen couldn’t hold off Miami, who plated three runs across the final three innings to hand Texas its second straight extra-inning loss.
