FORT WORTH, TEXAS — Sonny Dykes enters his fourth year at TCU with 27 wins — the second-most by any coach in his first three seasons with the Horned Frogs. He’s one of only six active FBS head coaches to lead four different programs to bowl games.
Redshirt junior Josh Hoover returns as the offensive leader after setting the school’s single-season passing record with 3,949 yards and 27 touchdowns in 2024. But with top receivers gone to the NFL, he’ll have a new supporting cast. TCU is also focused on reviving its run game after averaging just 113.9 rushing yards per game — the lowest of the Dykes era.
On defense, safety Bud Clark is back after leading the nation’s safeties in coverage grade. His 12 career interceptions put him one shy of entering TCU’s all-time top 10.
TCU wraps non-conference play Saturday morning by hosting SMU in the 104th — and final scheduled — Battle for the Iron Skillet. The Horned Frogs are 18-5 in the rivalry since 2000, but SMU has taken three of the last five, including two with Dykes as Mustangs head coach.
A win would give TCU a perfect non-conference record for the first time since 2022.
