ARLINGTON, TEXAS — The Houston Astros dominated the Texas Rangers 11-0 Friday night at Globe Life Field, forcing a rubber match Saturday in the Lone Star Series. The loss marked Texas’ largest shutout defeat since May 2023 and their 14th of the season, tied for third-most in MLB.
The Rangers went 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position and have one hit in 37 at-bats over the last four games. Jacob deGrom allowed five hits and three runs in 5.1 innings, all on solo homers by Christian Walker and Yordan Alvarez, despite striking out the side in the first.
Hunter Brown was flawless for Houston, tossing six shutout innings and navigating several high-leverage jams. Offensively, Yordan Alvarez went 3-for-5 with a homer, Yainer Diaz added three RBIs, and Christian Walker had a 426-foot solo shot.
Texas falls to 5-4 against Houston this season, 5 games back in the AL West and 1.5 behind Seattle for the final Wild Card spot. The series concludes Saturday, giving the Rangers a chance to rebound.
