ARLINGTON, TEXAS — The Dallas Cowboys closed out their preseason slate with a convincing 31-13 victory over the Atlanta Falcons at AT&T Stadium on Friday night. With the final roster cutdown looming, quarterback Joe Milton III may have made his most compelling case yet.
Milton completed 10 of 18 passes for 132 yards and a touchdown. He also added a rushing score, showcasing his mobility on a red zone keeper early in the second quarter. The Cowboys finished the night with 285 total yards of offense, showing balance in both the passing and running game.
His passing touchdown came on a precise throw to wide receiver Jalen Brooks, who’s also making a strong case for a roster spot.
Running back Jaydon Blue made his preseason debut after missing time with a knee injury and found the end zone on a short touchdown run. He finished with 9 carries for 25 yards, flashing quickness and vision in limited action. Deuce Vaughn also saw extended work, carrying the ball 10 times for 42 yards as he continued to provide a spark in open space.
Linebacker Shemar James and cornerback Robert Rochell both recorded interceptions, highlighting a ball-hawking effort from the Cowboys’ defense that helped secure the win.
The Cowboys finished the preseason 1-2 and now face the league-wide deadline to trim the roster to 53 players by Tuesday. With multiple position battles still undecided—at running back and in the secondary—the coaching staff, led by offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, has tough calls ahead.
Dallas will kick off the regular season on the road Thursday, September 4, against the Philadelphia Eagles,
