ARLINGTON, TX — The Rangers stayed red-hot out of the All-Star break, squeezing out a 2-1 win over Oakland on Wednesday night to polish off a three-game sweep. It marked Texas’ fifth sweep of the season — all coming at Globe Life Field — and improved their record to 53-50, their best mark since mid-May.

The pitching staff continued its dominant stretch, holding opponents to two runs or fewer for the seventh straight game — tying a franchise record that dates back to 1983.

Veteran lefty Patrick Corbin kept Oakland off the board through five innings before running into trouble with two outs in the sixth. He finished with seven strikeouts and no walks across 5.2 innings — his sharpest outing in a Rangers uniform.

Jon Gray, activated from the 60-day IL earlier in the day, picked up the win in relief. The right-hander stranded two inherited runners, tossed 2.2 scoreless frames, and looked sharp in his first appearance of the season.

Corey Seager provided the early spark with a towering solo homer in the third — a 434-foot shot that stands as the longest by a Ranger at Globe Life this year. The All-Star shortstop also doubled and extended his on-base streak to 24 games, the longest active run in the American League.

Jonah Heim delivered the game-winner in the seventh, blooping a soft double into shallow left that fell between two A’s defenders. It was his second clutch RBI in the late innings this season.

Oakland starter JP Sears matched Texas pitch-for-pitch, giving up just three hits and striking out seven over five innings. But a lack of run support spoiled an otherwise strong outing.

Nick Kurtz extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a game-tying RBI double, and Brent Rooker recorded his 32nd multi-hit game of the season — but the A’s couldn’t cash in late.

Texas, now winners of six of their last seven, will rest Thursday before welcoming the Braves to town for a weekend series.
