HOUSTON — Wyatt Langford stayed hot at the plate, matching a career-high with four hits and launching a late homer as the Rangers took down the Astros 7-3 on Friday night.
Texas didn’t waste time, jumping on Houston starter Lance McCullers Jr. early. Evan Carter delivered a two-run single in the first, and Adolis García crushed a solo shot in the third—his second homer in as many nights.
Jonah Heim added the big blow, lacing a two-run double to push the lead to 5-1 and chase McCullers after just three innings. He allowed five earned on six hits.
Jack Leiter (5-6) held Houston in check through 5 1/3 innings, striking out six. The Astros got within two after Victor Caratini’s two-run homer in the fourth, but Langford’s seventh-inning blast slammed the door shut.
Top prospect Brice Matthews debuted for Houston but struck out three times in an 0-for-4 night.
Next: Jacob deGrom (9-2, 2.29 ERA) faces Framber Valdez (10-4, 2.90 ERA) in Saturday’s matchup.
