Coach Prime Steals the Show

FRISCO, TEXAS — The buzz inside Ford Center on Day 2 of Big 12 Media Days wasn’t just about returning quarterbacks or realignment drama—it was about one man: Deion Sanders.

The Colorado head coach, better known across the sports world as “Coach Prime,” took the stage with a signature blend of confidence, conviction, and charisma. Sporting shades and a gold whistle, Sanders delivered a message bigger than football.

“I trust God with all my might, all my soul, with everything I have,” he said, drawing a hush across the media crowd. “That’s where my strength comes from.”

It wasn’t just a soundbite. It was a mission statement—a glimpse into the culture he’s building in Boulder as the Buffs embark on their first season back in the Big 12. He spoke about discipline, belief, and the responsibility that comes with wearing the jersey. In typical Coach Prime fashion, the room listened.

But as Sanders turned heads, so did the depth at quarterback across the league. This year’s Big 12 might be the most stacked it’s ever been at the game’s most pivotal position.

Nine quarterbacks. Nine different teams. All topped 2,400 passing yards last season—and all are back.

From experienced gunslingers to dynamic dual-threats, the QB class is deep and dangerous. It sets up a wild ride this fall, with no clear favorite and no shortage of storylines.

Texas Tech’s Behren Morton. Kansas’ Jalon Daniels. UCF’s John Rhys Plumlee. Baylor’s Blake Shapen. TCU’s Josh Hoover. Cincinnati’s Emory Jones. Iowa State’s Rocco Becht. Kansas State’s Avery Johnson. And of course, Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders.

Each brings a unique skillset. Each has something to prove.

“There’s a lot of dudes in this conference that can make plays,” one coach said. “You better have a defense ready every week.”

As the Big 12 enters a new era—with 16 teams, new rivalries, and increased national attention—the quarterback talent promises fireworks every Saturday. Who emerges as QB1? That remains to be seen. But one thing is clear: this year, the road to Arlington runs through the arm.

Coach Prime has his vision. The quarterbacks have theirs. And the Big 12? It just might be the most entertaining conference in college football this season.
