Brian Schottenheimer Embraces Pressure, Legacy, and Expectations

FRISCO, TEXAS — It’s been three decades since the Dallas Cowboys hoisted a Lombardi Trophy, but offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer isn’t shying away from what he believes lies ahead for this year’s coaching staff — success, and the attention that comes with it.

“We’re gonna win. And when we win, our coaching staff is going to get raided,” Schottenheimer said confidently. “People are going to come after our coaches, because we’re gonna win.”

The long drought since Dallas’ last Super Bowl title in 1996 still looms large over the franchise. But for Schottenheimer, building a winning culture goes beyond the hardware. “Legacy to me… starts with the people,” he said, emphasizing the character and relationships behind the scenes.

Reflecting on his late father, legendary NFL coach Marty Schottenheimer — a man who never captured a Super Bowl title despite a storied career — Brian pointed to something more lasting than wins and losses.

“Your father changed my life,” he recalled hearing from former players. That impact, he believes, defines true coaching greatness.

“I’d put his legacy up against anybody,” Schottenheimer said, proudly.

As the Cowboys prepare for the 2025 season with renewed urgency and high expectations, Schottenheimer’s perspective blends the weight of history with an unwavering belief in what’s being built in Dallas.
