TAMPA, FLORIDA – A historic night for the USL Super League featured a hard-fought semifinal clash that saw Dallas Trinity FC’s inaugural season come to a close with a narrow 2-1 defeat to Tampa Bay Sun FC at Riverfront Stadium.
Despite entering the matchup as the No. 3 seed, Dallas struck first and set the early tone. Defender Hannah Davison continued her flair for milestone moments, heading in the league’s first-ever postseason goal in the 17th minute. Julia Dorsey set up the play with a well-placed cross from the left flank, giving Dallas the early 1-0 edge.
Tampa Bay responded before the half, capitalizing on a penalty kick in the 36th minute from Natasha Flint to level the match. The go-ahead and eventual game-winner came in the 59th minute when Carlee Giammona found space and converted past the Dallas backline.
While Dallas edged Tampa Bay in possession (51%-49%), the hosts managed more precision in the final third. Tampa Bay finished with more shots on target, a narrow but meaningful edge in a match defined by moments.
Dallas closes its inaugural campaign with a 12-9-7 record and a third-place finish in the regular season standings. The team made a statement throughout the year, showcasing grit, defensive organization, and emerging talent, culminating in a strong postseason debut.
Davison, who also scored the first goal in franchise history against this same Tampa Bay squad back in August, bookended the season with another milestone strike. Dorsey, who logged one assist during the regular season, stepped up once again in the club’s biggest moment.
The squad utilized 13 players in the semifinal matchup, a testament to the depth and cohesion that carried them through their debut year.
Reflecting on the journey, Davison shared, “What an exciting season. The first season in Dallas history has been filled with so many highs and lows. The way that this group came together and fought through adversity was amazing. It’s been so much fun and it’s great to know that this is only the start of what we can do. We’re obviously disappointed losing tonight, but this season has been a blast. There’s so much to grow on moving forward.”
With the 2025/26 campaign on the horizon, Dallas now shifts its focus to the home opener against Spokane Zephyr FC on August 23.
