Rangers Shut Out by Cardinals, Series Tied Heading into Finale

ARLINGTON, TEXAS — The Rangers couldn’t get the bats going Saturday, falling 2-0 to the Cardinals at Globe Life Field. It was Texas’ eighth shutout loss of the season—most in the American League—and continued a rough stretch in which they’ve dropped 10 of their last 14 games.

Patrick Corbin turned in a solid start, giving up two runs over 5.1 innings, but got little help from the offense. St. Louis struck early with a sacrifice fly in the second and added an RBI double in the fourth. Corbin has now allowed three or fewer runs in 10 straight starts.

Cole Winn kept things close with 1.2 scoreless innings of relief and has yet to allow a run in four MLB appearances. Alejandro Osuna reached base twice and extended his on-base streak to six games to start his career.

Sonny Gray dominated for the Cardinals, tossing seven shutout innings with 10 strikeouts and reaching 1,800 career Ks. Willson Contreras and Nolan Arenado drove in the only runs for St. Louis, which has now won six of its last eight games.

Texas wraps up the homestand and the series against St. Louis on Sunday afternoon in the rubber match.
