Rangers Rally Past Astros, 5-1, to Take Series Lead

ARLINGTON, TEXAS — The Rangers stayed hot at home, rallying for a 5-1 win over the Astros to take a 2-1 lead in the four-game series. It marked Texas’ third comeback win of the homestand and seventh overall this season.

Tyler Mahle earned his fifth win with six strong innings, allowing just one run. He now holds a 1.47 ERA — third-best in the majors — and has allowed two or fewer runs in all 10 starts this year.

Joc Pederson broke a 1-1 tie with a two-run homer in the sixth, his first at Globe Life Field. Wyatt Langford followed with a 431-foot shot in the seventh, his team-leading ninth of the season.

Jake Burger extended his hit streak to six games with a ground-rule double, and Sam Haggerty added his first extra-base hit as a Ranger.

Houston’s Ronel Blanco allowed three earned runs over six innings but took the loss. Christian Walker drove in the Astros’ only run with a first-inning double.

Texas has won 7 of its last 8 and looks to close the homestand strong Sunday at 12:05 p.m.
