DETROIT, MICHIGAN — Nathan Eovaldi turned in a dominant performance Sunday, allowing just two hits over seven scoreless innings as the Texas Rangers beat the Detroit Tigers 6-1 to win the series.
Eovaldi struck out seven and walked one in his fifth straight quality start, continuing his career-long success at Comerica Park, where he’s now 4-0 with a 1.13 ERA.
Marcus Semien opened the scoring with a two-run homer in the second inning, snapping Reese Olson’s 38.2-inning streak without allowing a home run. Josh Jung added a two-run shot in the fifth, and Jonah Heim followed with a solo homer in the sixth.
Olson (4-3) gave up three runs on seven hits over four innings for Detroit, which managed just one run on a late sac fly by Spencer Torkelson.
Texas had lost six straight series coming in but took two of three from a Tigers team that had won all five of its previous home series.
Next: Texas returns home Monday to face Colorado, with Tyler Mahle (3-1, 1.48 ERA) on the mound. Detroit hosts Boston, with rookie Jackson Jobe (2-0, 4.88 ERA) getting the start.
