BOSTON — Rafael Devers homered and drove in two runs as the Red Sox defeated the Texas Rangers 5-0 on Thursday afternoon. Devers’ solo shot in the seventh capped a solid performance, while his fifth-inning RBI single added an early cushion.
Boston’s pitching staff, led by Bryan Bello, combined for a five-hit shutout. Bello went 4.2 innings despite control issues, and Justin Slaten (1-3) earned the win. Garrett Whitlock and Liam Hendriks closed the door, with Whitlock escaping a jam in the seventh to preserve the shutout.
Texas starter Jack Leiter (2-2) struggled with command, walking four and giving up four earned runs in 5.1 innings. The Rangers have now dropped nine of their last 12 games.
