ARLINGTON, TEXAS — The Rangers snapped a season-high four-game losing streak Sunday, rolling past the Mariners 8-1 to avoid a sweep and close out their seven-game homestand on a high note.
Texas erupted for six runs in the third inning, its second-biggest frame of the year. Corey Seager and Adolis García each drove in two runs during the outburst, while Josh Jung and Marcus Semien added RBI singles. Josh Smith led the offense with a career-best four hits, including an RBI triple in the eighth.
Jacob deGrom (2-0) tossed five strong innings, allowing just one run on three hits. He struck out three, including his 1,700th career punchout in the first inning, becoming the fastest pitcher in AL/NL history to reach that milestone in just his 225th appearance.
Seager, playing in his second game back from the injured list, had the hardest-hit ball of the day with a 108.8 mph single. He’s batting .364 over his last 14 games. García notched his 400th career RBI with Texas and leads the club with 17 this season.
The Rangers went 2-5 on the homestand and will get a day off Monday before starting a six-game road trip in Boston on Tuesday.
