DALLAS, TEXAS — The Dallas Stars advanced past the Colorado Avalanche with a 4–2 win in Game 7 on Saturday night, led by standout performances from Mikko Rantanen and Wyatt Johnston
Rantanen registered three goals and one assist, factoring in on all four of Dallas’ scores. All three of his goals came in the third period, making him the first player in NHL history to record a hat trick in the third period of a Game 7. He also became the second player ever to produce a four-point period in a Game 7, joining Kevin Labanc (2019), and the first player to record multiple four-point periods in a single postseason.
Johnston scored the game-winning goal at 56:04 of regulation, the 11th-latest go-ahead goal in Game 7 history. It marked his third goal in as many career Game 7 appearances. Johnston became the first player in franchise history with multiple series-clinching goals in Game 7s, and the first in league history to achieve the feat at age 22 or younger.
With the win, Head Coach Pete DeBoer improved to 9–0 in Game 7s, the most wins by a head coach without a loss in NHL history.
