Stars Rally Win In OT To Even Series With Avalanche

DALLAS — In one of the most physical and mentally draining games we’ve seen, the Dallas Stars pulled off a huge win in Game 2 against the Colorado Avalanche. And the hero? Colin Blackwell, who buried the game-winner on Mackenzie Blackwood in overtime. The series is now tied 1-1.

First Period

Nathan MacKinnon wasted no time, scoring just 8:28 into the game—his second goal of the series—and immediately put pressure on Dallas, especially with the Stars already trailing in the series. Stars fans were feeling the nerves.

But then came a turning point. Parker Kelly was called for holding, and on the ensuing power play, Tyler Seguin found the back of the net. It was his 26th career power-play goal and his first since November 29, 2024—a huge sigh of relief and a major momentum shift for Dallas.

Second Period

Thomas Harley, who’s stepped up in a big way for the injured Miro Heiskanen, was everywhere. After logging over 27 minutes in Game 1, Harley delivered early in the second, scoring just 3:40 in to give Dallas the lead.

But Colorado responded quickly. Jack Drury tied things up just over a minute later. Then, late in the period, after a failed Stars power play, Logan O’Connor picked his spot and sniped one over Jake Oettinger, putting the Avalanche ahead 3-2. The tension in the building was palpable.

Third Period

Midway through the third, Dallas needed a miracle—and got one. Evgenii Dadonov delivered with a laser of a shot to tie the game, sending the AAC into a frenzy. His fired-up celebration said it all: Dallas wasn’t going anywhere.

The closing minutes were tense and physical. Then, with under two minutes left in regulation, Mikko Rantanen was called for hooking, sending the game to overtime with Dallas on the penalty kill.

Overtime

It was nearly midnight, but the building was still shaking. Towels were waving, “Blackwood” chants filled the air. Colin Blackwell, a healthy scratch in Game 1, was back in the lineup for Game 2—his first playoff appearance since 2021-22 with Toronto. And when it mattered most, he delivered.

Blackwell scored his first career playoff goal, an OT game-winner, tying the series 1-1.

This game was a war. Both teams recorded 45 hits. Lian Bichsel even got into it with MacKinnon—face-to-face, jawing, shoving. This series is as physical as they come.

Looking Ahead

The series now shifts to Denver. Game 3 is set for Monday, April 28 at 8:30 PM CST. The Stars departed on Tuesday afternoon with Miro Heiskanen on the team plane. However, Jason Robertson will not be making the trip. He is listed as week-to-week with a lower body injury.
