Brahmas vs. Renegades: UFL Season Opener Preview

ARLINGTON, TEXAS — The San Antonio Brahmas kick off their 2025 UFL season on Saturday against the Arlington Renegades. The Brahmas finished last year with a 7-3 record, securing second place in the XFL division before losing 25-0 to Birmingham in the UFL Championship. Head coach Wade Phillips returns to lead a team that retains several key contributors.

Quarterback Kellen Mond will take charge, aiming to develop chemistry with wide receiver Jontre Kirklin, who recorded 56 receptions, 615 yards, and three touchdowns last season. On defense, linebacker Tavante Beckett, an All-UFL selection, will seek to anchor the unit after leading the team with 67 tackles and nine tackles for loss.

Arlington looks to bounce back from a disappointing 3-7 season in 2024. Head coach Bob Stoops, bringing extensive experience from his time at Oklahoma, returns to guide the Renegades in pursuit of a turnaround campaign.

Quarterback Luis Perez, who previously led Arlington to an XFL championship before the merger, remains the leader under center. He will have two familiar targets in tight end Sal Cannella, who made 53 receptions for 496 yards and six touchdowns, and wide receiver Tyler Vaughns, who contributed 45 catches for 502 yards and three scores. With both teams aiming to start the season positively, this matchup promises to be an exciting contest.
