LOS ANGELES, CA – The Dallas Cowboys are heading to Los Angeles to take on the LA Rams in their first preseason game. The Cowboys have been in Oxnard the last two weeks for training camp preparing for the 2024 season.

There’s a lot of new moving parts in this Cowboys team. Most of the starters will not play, preseason is time for the rookies to debut their skills to coaches to try to make the 53 man roster.

A lot of eyes will be on the rookie first round draft pick Tyler Guyton. He has been doing exceptional in practice against Micah Parsons so it will be fun to see how he does against an opponent.

Not a rookie but expect to see a lot from QB Trey Lance. Head Coach Mike McCarthy stated in training camp that he has been doing really well and he just needs more reps. McCarthy said Lance will be getting a lot of reps during these preseason games. Lance has been with the Cowboys since early last season and was QB3 last year for Dallas behind Dak Prescott and Cooper Rush.

Another not so much rookie that will be fun to watch is the new no. 13 in town, not DeMarvion Overshown, and not Michael Gallup but wide receiver Tyron Billy-Johnson. Billy-Johnson has been with the Cowboys since last season and made the practice squad in 2023. He has been turning heads in camp.

“He just needs an opportunity.” McCarthy stated that Billy-Johnson is a great player he just needs an opportunity to show what he is capable of.

Billy-Johnson has been taking every rep he gets in practice to show that he is able to be on this team. We spoke to Billy-Johnson last week after practice and he stated that this is the first time he has had the same play book for more than one season. Billy-Johnson has moved around a lot in his career and said he’s constantly having to learn new play books quickly.

He said, “I’m extremely comfortable because this is the first time I’ve had the same play book for more than one season.”

The other 13 on the list will be another one to look out for. DeMarvion Overshown had a great camp last season and it was short lived before he tore his ACL during camp and was out for the rest of the season. He came back and looks stronger and better than he was before he tore his ACL. The linebacker is eager to get on the field and go up against someone who isn’t his own teammate.

Kickoff between these two teams is at 3:30 PM.
