It’s Official Dallas Cowboys Reunite with Former RB Ezekiel Elliott

FRISCO, TX – Ezekiel Elliott has reunited with the Dallas Cowboys. Dallas agreed to terms with former RB on Monday morning.

“We are keenly interested in seeing what the future might look like with Zeke,” said owner and general manager Jerry Jones following Day 1 of the 2024 NFL Draft.

The depth at running back has been an issue for the Cowboys since they parted ways with RB1 Tony Pollard in free agency where he then ended up signing with Tennessee. The Cowboys signed the next man up, Rico Dowdle, to a one-year deal but there was still question if he would be enough to get the Cowboys through an entire season.

The Cowboys parted ways with Elliott following the 2022 season where he then changed his number back to 15, going back to his college days at Ohio State and signed with the New England Patriots to a one-year deal.

While at New England he produced 955 yards from scrimmage with five touchdowns in five starts. He had 235 touches last season for the Patriots and that showed Jerry Jones that he still has some fuel left in the tank.

We asked Jones following the NFL Draft, after the Cowboys did not select any running backs, if he felt that Elliott was still able to be a starter in the NFL and he said yes.

“Zeke is, as we all know, is one of our favorites,” said executive vice president and director of player personnel Stephen Jones. “He’s laid it on the line for this franchise. He’s the ultimate competitor and we obviously think a lot of him.”

While being with the Cowboys Elliott has helped Dak Prescott and this offense since he became a Cowboy in 2016. He earned PFWA All-Rookie Team honors before going on to ultimately garner three Pro Bowl nods and honors as a two-time All-Pro.

In all, Elliott rushed for a total of 8,262 yards and 68 touchdowns, third to only Emmitt Smith and Tony Dorsett, while having surpassed Dorsett in average rushing yards per game (80.2).

FRISCO, TEXAS — Running back Ezekiel Elliott and the Dallas Cowboys have agreed to terms, pending a physical that will bring the multi-time former Pro Bowler back, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported Monday morning, per sources.
