The Mavericks Acquire G JJ Redick From Pelicans Before Deadline

DALLAS, TEXAS — The Mavericks have made several attempts to give Luka Doncic another perimeter weapon and it looks like the Mavericks did just that. Per Shams Charania of the Athletic the Mavericks acquired JJ Redick & Nico Melli in exchange for James Johnson, Wes Inwudu and a second round pick right before Thursday’s trade deadline.

It’s no secret, the Mavericks have had their share of problems from beyond the arc although their three point shooting recently began rending in an upward trajectory. Nonetheless adding a NBA veteran who shoots the three ball as exceptional as JJ Redick can only help the Mavericks as the season begins to mature.

JJ Redick who was originally drafted by the Orlando Magic in 2006 after a stellar collegiate career playing under Coach K at Duke, has had stints with the Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Clippers, and the Philadelphia 76ers. Throughout his career he has only missed the playoffs once and that was last season during his time with the New Orleans Pelicans. This season with the Pelicans he averaged 8.7 points and 36% from three and in his career he has averaged 13.1 points per game and has a 41% three point percentage.

Two weeks ago, the 36 year old NBA vet underwent a non surgical procedure to reduce inflammation and soreness in his right heel which could sideline him from making a debut for his new team.
