LB Sean Lee Projected to Miss Six Weeks Following Hernia Surgery

FRISCO, TEXAS — Strong side linebacker Sean Lee underwent surgery to repair a sports hernia and is expected to be out six weeks according to NFL Network.

The Cowboys placed Lee on injured reserve prior to the start of the 2020 season, which officially sidelined him for three weeks. Now, his projected return to the gridiron is mid-October. The Cowboys depth at linebacker is a current necessity with Lee’s extended absence. The club’s starting middle linebacker Leighton Vander Esch is on injured reserve with a fractured collarbone that will likely sideline him for 6-8 weeks. On Sunday against the Rams after Vander Esch exited the game, Jaylon Smith switched to middle linebacker filling in for Vander Esch and Joe Thomas stepped in at the weak side.

On Tuesday, Dallas signed linebacker Rashad Smith off the Bears’ practice squad for depth purposes but he cannot report to the Star until Thursday due to COVID-19 protocols.
