Seau returns to Patriots

jseau.jpgSeau’s agent, Marvin Demoff, said Patriots head coach Bill Belichick called Seau Wednesday and the two sides liked what was said enough for Seau to fly into town a little before 4 p.m. yesterday. “I haven’t really talked to Junior since he got off the plane, but I expect if nothing changes from the conversation they had last night that he will end up signing a contract,” Demoff said. Coming on the heels of the acquisition of fellow veteran Rosevelt Colvin on Wednesday, the Patriots appear to be shoring up their shrinking depth at linebacker with players who know their system. According to a league source, they also recently had cursory discussions with former linebacker and special teams standout Matt Chatham. Demoff said Seau has fully recovered from offseason surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff and didn’t believe his client would bother flying out here if he couldn’t play. “It’s an odd set of circumstances,” Demoff said. “I’ve done this forever, and Junior has played forever, and in all the years I’ve represented players, Junior and the Patriots have -’special’ is a silly word – but they’ve just had a really clear relationship where Junior and Belichick can talk pretty candidly and clearly to each other. “I don’t think a call would have come to Junior if it hadn’t been thought out, and in Junior’s discussions with Belichick, it would have had to make sense to both before he got on a plane.
