Cowboys Sign Safety Jason Thompson

FRISCO, Texas – The Dallas Cowboys signed safety free agent Jason Thompson on Thursday evening. He went to the New England Patriots’ training camp as an undrafted rookie last year, but did not make it to the 53 man final roster and was cut before the regular season began.

He appeared in all four of the Patriot’s preseason games, making 10 tackles. Thompson has spent time on the Bears and Seahawks practice squads. During Thompson’s collegiate football career, he switched positions. He started out as a quarterback at Wyoming, but switched to safety and played 24 games over two years at Utah.

Thompson is a versatile player who was named “ one of the 10 freakiest athletes “ of the 2017 draft class by Pro Football Focus. Now he will have a chance to showcase his talent for the Dallas Cowboys during the offseason and make a difference in the Cowboy’s defensive scheme protecting the backfield or a strong force on a running play.
