Cowboys Hire Former Seahawks Defensive Coordinator Kris Richard To Be Defensive Passing Game Coordinator

FRISCO, Texas – The Dallas Cowboys have filled another available assistant coach position. The Cowboys have hired Kris Richard, the former defensive coordinator of the Seattle Seahawks to be the new defensive passing game coordinator. Richard replaces Matt Eberflus who left to join the Colts as their new defensive coordinator.

Richard has been an assistant coach in Seattle for the past eight years and their defensive coordinator since 2015. From 2012-14, He was a defensive backs coach that supervised the talented secondary that helped Seattle reach back-to-back Super Bowls. Their defense ranked in the top three in the league for points allowed in 2015- 16. The Seahawks defense was ranked 11th in total defense in the league this year and the Seahawks parted ways with Richard last week.

The Cowboys did not renew the contract of secondary coach Joe Baker. That position still needs to be filled. In the meantime, Richard will work closely under defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli to strengthen the core of our defense. In 2016 our defense was ranked 5th in the NFL, and the Dallas Cowboys think Richard is the man to help get us back there. Our defense has a young secondary and went through a transition year with injuries, but Kris Richard is up for the challenge.
