DALLAS, Texas – The Dallas Mavericks ended their losing streak Tuesday night. Opening the game with back-to-back scores by big man Maxi Kleber and veteran swingman Wesley Matthews, the Mavs got going early. Back-to-back three-pointers from rookie point guard Dennis Smith Jr. and second-year Yogi Ferrell put the Mavs team up 17-9.
Starting the second period Mavs big man Josh McRoberts made his season debut after battling back from a lower extremity injury. Entering the second half the Mavs trailed 48-43
Starting the third period with a 9-0 run after a three-pointer from Ferrell, the Mavs quickly caught up 52-48 in the second half. Matthews followed later with a triple. Mavericks produced 39 points for their highest-scoring third period of the season. Both Dirk Nowitzki and Dennis smith Jr. scored 20 points and Harrison Barnes and Yogi Ferrell both added 15 to help the Mavericks defeat the Magic 114-99.
Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle recorded his 708th career win passing John MacLeod for sole possession of 17th place on the NBA’s all-time wins list. Gene Shue ranks 16th with 784 career wins.
Dallas will hit the road for the next two games then will be back at the American Airlines Center January 13 hosting the Los Angeles Lakers.
