DALLAS, Texas – The Dallas Mavericks fans gave Derek Harper a standing ovation as he was honored Sunday night, having his number 12 jersey retired. Harper was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks with the 11th overall pick of the 1983 NBA draft and spent his first ten seasons with them, averaging 15 points and 6.1 assists.
“This is my night, I couldn’t think of sharing this night with a better group of fans than the Rowdies and MFFL’s,” Harper said During halftime of the Dallas Mavericks game Harper joined Brad Davis and Rolando Blackman as the only players in Mavs history to have their jerseys retired.
Harper played in 1,199 regular season games in his career, tying him for 35th in NBA history.
