FRISCO, Texas (Saturday, Sept. 10) – FC Dallas (15-8-6, 51 points) gave up a goal to Colorado’s Marlon Hairston in the 52nd
minute and the Rapids (12-5-10, 46 points) held on to defeat Dallas, 1-0, tonight at Toyota Stadium.
Tesho, who had just returned from a call-up to the Canadian National Team earlier in the week, sparked the FC Dallas offense in the sixth minute of the match. After winning the ball on Dallas’ side of the field, Tesho sprinted 60 yards up field with the ball before passing to Victor Ulloa. The ball cycled through late arriving players before Aubrey David, who was returning from his own international call up to Trinidad and Tobago, slipped a pass inside to Tesho at the top of the area. The forward took a touch to his left before attempting to beat U.S. goalkeeper Tim Howard with a low shot to his right side. Fortunately for Colorado, Howard was in good position and made the save to keep the score at 0-0.
Maxi Urruti nearly beat Howard to the near post just before halftime. Walker Zimmerman initiated the opportunity with a long run down the right flank. The center back split a pair of defenders with a pass to Getterson inside the area and the Brazilian forward got the ball to the feet of Urruti with his back to goal. The Argentine hit a spinning left-footed attempt to Howard’s left side, but the chance skipped just wide of the post.
Colorado took a 1-0 lead in the 52nd minute on a goal scored by Dominique Badji. Badji received a throw in from teammate Sebastien Le Toux on the left flank, turned his defender and sped towards goal and struck the ball towards the lower left corner of the goal. The shot split defender Matt Hedges and goalkeeper Chris Seitz before skipping inside the post.
Mauro Diaz came on for Ryan Hollingshead in the 55th minute to try and help FC Dallas pull even with the Rapids. Dallas’ No. 10 nearly unlocked the defense in the 62nd minute, when he sent a first touch through ball into the area for Atiba Harris. The St. Kitts and Nevis international cracked a hard shot towards the back post but Howard stood his ground and made a left-footed kick save.
Michael Barrios set up Zimmerman with a looping cross to the back post in the 88th minute but Howard read the flight of the ball well and was in position to catch the snap header from the center back before the ball crossed the goal line.
