Whitney Houston to receive international artist award

Whitney_Houston_blows_5aceWhitney Houston is a special honoree at the 37th Annual American Music Awards. When the event is held on November 22, the singer will be handed with International Artist Award which is presented only to artists who have gone beyond the borders of their own country to be acknowledged for their superstar status around the globe.

What makes the award special is that it has only been presented seven times in the 36-year history of the AMAs. Previous recipients of the prize included Michael Jackson, Rod Stewart, Led Zeppelin, Bee Gees, Aerosmith, Madonna and Beyonce Knowles.

In addition to being given a special award, Whitney Houston is also set to perform on the stage of NOKIA Theatre. She is going to deliver her ballad track “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength” which is written by Diane Warren and produced by David Foster.

“We’re honored to have Whitney Houston back on the AMA stage after ten years,” said AMAs producer Larry Klein. “She has won the most AMAs of any female artist in history and is without a doubt an international superstar, so it’s only fitting we honor her with the International Artist Award this year at such an important time in her career.”

Other confirmed musical guests at the event are Rihanna, Green Day, Shakira, Mary J. Blige, Keith Urban, Lady GaGa, Eminem, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Jennifer Lopez, Black Eyed Peas, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, DAUGHTRY and Adam Lambert.
