Jackson’s private funeral cost around $1m

Michael Jackson’s private family funeral was fit for a king and had a price tag to match: roughly $1m.

Court documents released yesterday showed that his mother, his brother, Randy, and sister, Janet, were involved in the planning and mindful of the huge amount of media attention that would be lavished on the September 3 funeral.

Lawyers for Jackson’s mother applied to the estate’s administrators and were granted the money to pay for costs that included burial, flowers, cars, security and a post-funeral dinner.

The private ceremony for the King of Pop was held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California, weeks after a public tribute to the singer at the Staples Centre.
