CATHOLIC CHARITIES USA(R) LOGOALEXANDRIA, Va., Aug. 28 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Rev. Larry Snyder, president of Catholic Charities USA, whose agencies provided substantial assistance to Katrina victims and continue to do so presently, issued the following statement today on the 4th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina:

“As we gather in peace and prayer this weekend, I wish to remind everyone that we are marking the 4th anniversary of Katrina. While many have been helped and restored in the aftermath of this devastating natural disaster, there continues to be much work to be done and much human need to be served.

“Catholic Charities USA and its member agencies — particularly those in the New Orleans and Gulf Coast areas — have been committed to the recovery process from the very beginning. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the Catholic Charities employees and volunteers who have worked so tirelessly and continue to work with case management support for Katrina victims. We share an equal expression of thanks for the compassion and generosity of all our donors who have provided financial support to date. We ask for your continued support so that we may serve all those who struggle to this very day.

“Katrina will never be forgotten, but its impact on human life must be permanently erased. Catholic Charities and numerous other individuals and organizations have been entrusted with that task. Your thoughts and prayers — and your deeds — are honored on this 4th anniversary date.”

Catholic Charities USA’s members — more than 1,700 local Catholic Charities agencies and institutions nationwide — provide help and create hope for nearly 8 million people a year regardless of religious, social, or economic backgrounds. For almost 300 years, Catholic Charities agencies have worked to reduce poverty by providing a myriad of vital services in their communities, ranging from health care and job training to food and housing. In 2010, Catholic Charities USA celebrates its centennial anniversary. For more information, visit www.CatholicCharitiesUSA.org.
